IT Infrastructure & Structured Cabling · Western Massachusetts

Everything your network runs on starts with the physical foundation it's built on.

Network performance problems, intermittent connectivity, Wi-Fi dead zones, and mysterious outages are frequently traced back to the same root cause — a physical infrastructure that was never properly designed, that grew organically over years of quick fixes, or that was installed without regard for the standards that ensure long-term reliability. No amount of managed IT overhead compensates for a bad cable run or an overloaded patch panel.

NetWerks designs and installs IT infrastructure to NEC and BICSI specifications — the industry standards that ensure your cabling plant is installed correctly the first time and performs reliably for the life of the building. From single-office data drop installations to multi-site structured cabling systems with fiber optic backbone — designed by practitioners who understand both the physical plant and the managed IT environment it supports.

What bad infrastructure actually costs

Infrastructure problems are invisible until they're expensive. By the time they manifest as performance issues or outages, the underlying cause is often years old — and the fix requires tearing into walls that should have been done right the first time.

🔌

Mystery cables nobody can account for

The patch panel with no labeling. The cable runs that go nowhere or connect to nothing anyone can identify. The undocumented wiring that the last IT person knew about and nobody else does. Infrastructure that was never documented is infrastructure you cannot troubleshoot, extend, or confidently rely on.

📶

Performance problems with no obvious cause

Slow network performance that persists despite hardware upgrades. Intermittent drops that don't correlate with any software event. Wi-Fi that works in some areas and not others without explanation. These symptoms frequently trace back to cable runs that exceed specification, improper terminations, or interference from parallel electrical runs — none of which show up on a network diagnostic.

🔒

Infrastructure that can't support growth

A cabling plant designed for twenty users that now supports sixty. Data closets that were adequate five years ago and are now overloaded. Single-path infrastructure with no redundancy where a single cable failure takes down an entire floor. Infrastructure that wasn't designed to scale becomes a ceiling on growth.

📋

No documentation of what exists

Every infrastructure project NetWerks completes is fully documented — cable paths, port assignments, patch panel labeling, and as-built diagrams. The next technician who works on your infrastructure will know exactly what exists and where it goes. That documentation is an asset with real value every time something needs to change.

The NetWerks approach to infrastructure

"Done right the first time means not doing it again five years from now."

NEC and BICSI specifications exist for a reason — they define the installation standards that ensure long-term reliability. Every NetWerks infrastructure project is designed and installed to those standards. Not because we have to. Because it's the right way to do it.

What NetWerks infrastructure services cover

From a single data drop to a complete multi-site structured cabling system — designed to specification, installed to standard, and fully documented on completion.

🔌

Structured cabling design & installation

Complete structured cabling systems designed to NEC and BICSI specifications — Cat6/Cat6A copper cabling for data and voice, fiber optic backbone runs between data closets and buildings, and comprehensive patch panel and rack installation. Every project designed before a single cable is pulled and documented on completion.

📷

Fiber optic installation

Single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cable runs for high-speed backbone connections between data closets, between buildings, and for environments requiring electromagnetic interference immunity or longer cable runs than copper supports. Tested and certified on completion.

💻

IT closet design & consolidation

Data closet design from scratch for new installations — proper rack sizing, cable management, power protection, ventilation, and physical security. Existing closet consolidation and cleanup for environments where years of incremental changes have produced a cable management disaster. Clean, organized, and documented.

📶

Wireless network design & deployment

Enterprise wireless network design for complete and consistent coverage — access point placement based on site survey rather than guesswork, proper channel planning to minimize interference, and infrastructure to support the device density your environment requires. No dead zones. No congestion.

Power protection & UPS systems

UPS system sizing, installation, and integration — ensuring your critical IT infrastructure is protected from power events that cause unplanned downtime and data loss. Battery replacement programs for existing UPS systems. Generator integration assessment for facilities requiring extended runtime capability.

📋

Infrastructure documentation & labeling

Complete as-built documentation for every project — cable paths, port assignments, patch panel labeling, rack diagrams, and network topology documentation. Infrastructure you can understand, troubleshoot, and extend without rediscovering what already exists. Delivered as part of every NetWerks infrastructure engagement.

The small business IT closet reality — and what we do about it

Most small business IT infrastructure grows organically over years of quick fixes — SoHo-grade routers running business operations, unlabeled cable bundles nobody can trace, connections terminated with too much insulation stripped, no ventilation, no documentation, no plan. We find this constantly. And we fix it — right down to building custom shelving and cabinetry in-house when the space demands a solution that doesn't exist off the shelf.

What good small business infrastructure actually looks like

Business-grade routing and switching — not SoHo hardware running at capacity. Properly terminated connections that maintain signal integrity. Labeled patch panels and cable runs any technician can follow. Adequate ventilation for the heat load present. Custom shelving or enclosures built to fit the space when nothing off the shelf will do. Documentation that survives beyond the technician who did the work. That is the standard NetWerks works to — on every project, regardless of size.

How we deliver infrastructure projects

In-house installation for Western MA. Design and project management for larger and out-of-jurisdiction work.

For projects within Western Massachusetts, NetWerks uses in-house staff for cable pulls — copper and fiber optic — ensuring the same team that designed the system installs it. For larger projects or those in jurisdictions where licensing requirements call for a licensed electrical contractor, NetWerks designs the system, specifies the materials, and acts as project manager throughout — coordinating the contractor, verifying the installation against specification, and handling all IT integration work directly.

Every project — regardless of delivery method — is designed to NEC and BICSI specifications. Materials are specified before work begins. Installation is verified against the design on completion. Documentation is delivered as a project deliverable. No shortcuts. No mysteries left behind in the walls.

Manufacturing & industrial environments

Industrial environments require infrastructure that performs in conditions office cabling wasn't designed for.

Manufacturing floors, warehouses, and industrial facilities present infrastructure challenges that standard office cabling design doesn't account for — electromagnetic interference from motors and machinery, temperature and humidity extremes, physical abuse from forklifts and heavy equipment, and the need to distribute network access across large floor areas without performance degradation.

NetWerks has hands-on experience designing and installing infrastructure in manufacturing environments — including the distributed serial-to- Ethernet systems used for CNC program distribution, wireless networks designed for industrial device density, and the physical plant design that keeps network infrastructure out of the way of production operations.
